Herbs and Spices

We are pleased to announce an upcoming culinary workshop that will be taking place at roots this Tuesday, February 25th at 6:30pm.  Learn to use fresh herbs and spices to develop a variety of delicious meals from a simple base of mixed grains in this hands-on workshop.  The workshop is free of cost, but space is limited to 20 participants, so if you wish to join us, please sign up below.

Jeanna Haggard, Assistant Professor of Food & Nutrition at Bluffton University, will be our guide through this hands-on meal building activity, providing education and insight to help you keep your meal prep fresh, healthy, and simple.  Learn about fresh herbs that you can grow in your own backyard--their unique flavors, and how bring out their best potential in your home cuisine.  We hope to see you there!

Fabulous Fall Color

As the blazing days of summer gently fade to crisp fall evenings, so too must the brilliant hues of summer blooms give way to the golden splendor of autumn.  Our greenhouses are bursting with the color of hundreds of hardy chrysanthemums heralding the change of season.  We have everything from the earliest-blooming to the very latest-blooming mums in an incredible variety of colors and sizes, so you can revel in nature's final glorious blaze of color before the sparkling white mantle of winter blankets us once again.  We have a great selection of pumpkins and gourds to complement your fall decorations, as well as a variety of deer-resistant flowering bulbs to help you prepare for a colorful season next spring.  Stop by to find everything you need to make this fall marvelous!

Perennials Are In!

A fresh shipment of perennials has just arrived bright and early this morning!

 

We received a great variety of plants for both sun and shade, including several varieties of hostas, lungwort and coral bells, as well as Autumn Joy sedum, lavender, garden phlox, and more.

Tastings on Tuesdays

As part of our 70th Anniversary celebrations, we are very pleased to introduce Tastings on Tuesdays!  Join us this Tuesday, May 7th 2019 for an educational and delicious evening sampling gourmet dishes featuring fresh herbs from the greenhouse.

 

This week the dishes will be prepared by Jeanna Haggard, Professor of Nutrition at Bluffton University.  Jeanna holds a master’s degree in Medical Physiology, and will be on site with recipes and tips for super easy summer suppers which are both healthy and easy to make.  Our theme this week is asparagus, and dishes will feature exciting twists on culinary classics using interesting new ingredients.  If you’re looking for new, easy and delicious ways to liven up your dinners, you will not be disappointed!

 

Tastings on Tuesdays are free of charge and open to the public.  Stop by for a bite, take home a recipe, and enjoy our Sip & Save specials which will be available during the event.  Hope to see you there!
